Required Software/Podcasting

Required Software

All of our audio files use the mp3 format. This format is compatible with the widest variety of software and portable media players. Most computers come pre-installed with mp3-compatible software, and it will run automatically when mp3 files are opened. If you still need to download mp3 playing software, iTunes is available for Windows and Macintosh, while Winamp is available for Windows only.

Our manuscripts are in the Portable Document, or PDF, format. The most common program for viewing pdf files is Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded for all major operating systems. To be taken to Adobe's download page, click here.

Podcasting

Podcasts are available for both types of recordings available here on Solid Food: sermons and Sunday school lectures. Our podcast feeds are:

Sermons: iTunes -or- Direct xml link -or- http://www.solidfoodmedia.com/podcasts/sermons.xml
Lectures: iTunes -or- Direct xml link -or- http://www.solidfoodmedia.com/podcasts/sundayschool.xml

What Is Podcasting?
Podcasting is a way to have regularly updated content delivered right to your computer and possibly your portable music player. Podcasting most commonly deals with audio recordings (though not restricted to them) like radio shows, news programs, or anything else people want to record. "Podcasts" are the regularly updated audio programs that you want to receive on a regular basis, and with a little initial effort, you will get them automatically.

To receive podcasts, you need two things; a program that can subscribe to and download podcasts, and a podcast feed. The feed is a special kind of text file that the publisher of the podcast makes available. This feed is updated on a regular basis with information about new recordings that are available.

In your podcast-receiving program, you merely "subscribe" by giving it the location of the feed given by the publisher. Whenever the feed is updated, your program will download the new media that has become available, and perhaps even copy the media to your portable media player. In the case of Solid Food, you can have copies of new sermons and Sunday school lectures as soon as they're available.

Subscribing to Solid Food Podcasts
If you have iTunes, subscribing to our podcasts is particularly easy. Just click the "iTunes" links above and iTunes will open to the landing page for the particular podcast. There's a convenient "Subscribe" button right there on the page. The landing page also provides a list of the five most recent recordings.

If you're using another podcasting software program, you'll use the "Direct xml link" or the URL text next to the links with your podcasting program. See your particular program's documentation for instructions on subscribing to feeds.
